I always get the feeling that the people doing the "haha Nokias are indestructible" meme are kids who are way to young to have ever actually owned one of these Nokia phones.
Because trust me, I had a LOT of Nokia phones, because they constantly broke at the slightest thing. You drop it on the floor? It explodes everywhere, the outer casing and the battery and the rubber keypad and the sim card etc all go flying, and you need to buy a new phone. You get even a single drop of water on it from rain, or condensation from a glass? The keypad shorts out and can never be used again, it's literally unfixable, and so you need to buy a new phone.
They were very cheap so it didn't matter about buying a new one every time, or just taking your mum or dad's old one (cos everyone had a bunch of old ones in a drawer somewhere). But there's a reason everyone had cases for their Nokia phones. Because they were very fragile.
Modern smartphones are ***WAY*** way tougher than the old Nokia phones were. I've dropped my phone onto the pavement, made of tarmac/asphalt, and I've done it many times before I had got round to buying a case, so bear in mind these are caseless smartphones I'm talking about. They're fine, not even a scratch. No cracked screen, I've literally never had a cracked screen on a smartphone in the like 12 years I've had them, and I'm a clumsy old git so I'm constantly dropping them outside or inside my apartment that has no carpet or even a rug.
And phones are waterproof to the point you can even dunk them. I'm not lying, with the old Nokia phones, I'd get literally one drop of water from the condensation on a glass of beer or something, and that would be enough to permanently break the phone, make it unfixable. One single drop. And you couldn't ever take those old nokias outside without a case, especially in a country like mine (the UK) where it rains a lot. But modern smartphones? You can full on drop them in a bucket of water and they have no problem whatsoever. I've dropped my smartphones into the toilet when taking a shit an embarrassing number of times at this point. Yet I never had to replace them, I just waited the 2 or 3 yeses until I could get a free upgrade and did that, the old phone still worked perfectly, so I just gave it back to the shop (cos that way you can get a few hundred quid off the cost of the new one, that's how I have the most recent model of Samsung galaxy flagship phone of this year, despite being a poor bastard)
I don't know why it annoys me so much. There are things that were ***GENUINELY*** indestructible, like Nintendo Game Boys. Those can and have *literally* survived a bomb blast and still run games and the screen works still etc, [see the photo of it here, still running Tetris perfectly, despite belonging to a soldier in somewhere like Afghanistan IIRC, and being in a literal bomb blast ](https://geekologie.com/2008/03/05/bombed-gameboy.jpg)
There's already things like that. So why do people have to make up shit about other stuff, pretending it's indestructible when it's not, when we have actual products that were truly indestructible
That's why I think it's kids. Kids who were probably born after these Nokia phones we're discussing. But they see the memes and the joke fake videos like these and actually think they're real, that Nokias genuinely are indestructible, when in reality they were very much destructible if you even looked at them the wrong way.
Like no wonder we have a misinformation problem around the world right now.
